چکیده
Laboratories that develop or produce their own antigen reagents for serodiagnostic purposes need a practical and reliable quality control method for evaluating the successive batches of standardized reagent, so as to ensure the reproducibility of test results. Although a large number of statistical models are available for quality control analysis of therapeutic agents or clinical laboratory equipment and procedures (1, 2)) very few have been described for the evaluation of serologic reagents. This is probably because such reagents constitute a special category of biological products that measure intricate antibody activities in the sera of infected patients. The measurable output index, known as a titer, results from complex interactions between multiple epi-

Comparison of seven diagnostic tests to detect Trypanosoma cruzi infection in patients in chronic phase of Chagas disease
OBJECTIVE To compare the diagnostic performance of seven methods to determine Trypanosoma cruzi infection in patients with chronic Chagas disease. METHODS Analytical study, using the case-control design, which included 205 people (patients with Chagasic cardiomyopathy, n=100; control group, n=105). Three enzyme linked immunosorbent assays, one indirect hemagglutination assay and one immunochr...

Results of Chagas' disease diagnosis show disagreement. The aim of this study was to compare commercial tests for Chagas' disease serodiagnosis in southern Brazil. A total of 161 samples were evaluated. Three enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays, one indirect hemagglutination and one indirect immunofluorescence were assessed. Trypomastigote excreted-secreted antigen-blot was a confirmatory method...
متن کاملChagas disease diagnosis using polymerase chain reaction, hemoculture and serologic methods.
Different approaches have been used in the diagnosis of chronic Chagas disease. Serologic tests are used to detect antibodies against Trypanosoma cruzi and not the presence of the parasite itself. These tests have high sensitivity but lack specificity because of antigenic cross-reactivity with parasites such as Leishmania sp. and T. rangeli (Schmunis 1991, Saldana & Sousa 1996). Parasitological...
متن کاملAssessment of chemiluminescence and PCR effectiveness in relation to conventional serological tests for the diagnosis of Chagas' disease.
While testing 414 sera for the diagnosis of Chagas' disease, the conventional reactions of indirect hemagglutination, indirect immunofluorescence and the immunosorbent assay showed a sensitivity of 95.7%, 100% and 98.2% and a specificity of 98%, 98% and 96.4%, respectively, and an excellent association using Fisher's exact test. Chemiluminescence presented 100% sensitivity and 89.6% specificity...
متن کاملDiscrepancies and consequences of indirect hemagglutination, indirect immunofluorescence and ELISA tests for the diagnosis of Chagas disease.
Using the indirect hemagglutination (IH), indirect immunofluorescence (IIF) and enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) tests for the diagnosis of Chagas disease, 4000 serum samples were examined. This study was conducted with different purposes: clinical interest, research support and parasitological monitoring of those patients with Chagas disease who were treated with heart transplantation...
